UNDERSTANDING COLOUR
COLOUR WHEEL UNDERSTANDING COLOUR Colour combines emotion and mood to convey style. As colour is a personal choice, always begin your decoration scheme with colours that you enjoy. For example, colours may be light or dark, warm or cool, bright or subdued. The combinations are limitless when used to reflect your personality. However, you will need to have a clear idea on what you like before starting, and you must also consider the effect that natural or artificial light in the room can have on your perception of colours. COOL COLOURS The cool colours such as blues and greens create a bright and airy environment and are therefore more suitable to smaller rooms, such as bathrooms, porches etc. In warmer areas they can help make a room more comfortable and airy BRIGHT COLOURS Bright colours are highly noticeable and therefore highlight features in a room decorated with neutral or a subdued colour  scheme. They are ideal for areas with little natural light, and work well in informal spaces. WARM COLOURS Warm colours such as reds, browns, oranges and yellows tend to create a social atmosphere, therefore are ideal for use in dining room, and family room, etc. Warm colours do Actually give a feeling of warmth and therefore can be used in colder south facing rooms LIGHT COLOURS Light colours can create a spacious effect in a room. They reflect more light and thereby brighten the area making it appear more open DARK COLOURS Dark colours absorb light; thereby drawing in the dimensions of a room for a more intimate cozier environment. Dark colours also camouflage rough or uneven surfaces.
